Maya sat quietly at her small kitchen table, her hands holding up her cheek enjoying the aroma of a mug of coffee that had long gone cold. The soft hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in her apartment, and yet her mind was anything but quiet.

Bills were spread out in front of her like a puzzle she couldn’t solve.

Rent. Car payment. Credit cards. Groceries.

She exhaled slowly, pressing her fingers against her temple. “Lord… I’m trying,” she whispered. “I really am.”

At just twenty-eight, Maya carried more weight than most people could see. By day, she worked as an administrative assistant, answering calls with a cheerful voice and a steady smile. By night, she picked up freelance work—anything she could find—to make ends meet.

To everyone else, she seemed strong. Responsible. Put together.

But deep inside, she was tired.

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Maya reached for her Bible sitting on the corner of the table. It had become her habit—her lifeline, really—to open it when everything felt too heavy.

Her eyes landed on a verse she had underlined months ago:

“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34:19

She paused.

“Many troubles,” she repeated softly. “Not no troubles.”

For the first time that day, something in her chest loosened.

Maybe this season didn’t mean she was failing.

Maybe it meant she was still walking through something God had already seen the end of.

The next morning came too quickly.

Maya rushed out the door with a granola bar in hand, already running late. As she drove to work, her mind started racing again.

What if I can’t pay rent this month? What if something unexpected happens? What if…

She stopped herself.

“No,” she said out loud.

Then, almost instinctively, she reached over and turned off the radio.

“God, I trust You,” she whispered, even though her voice trembled. “I don’t know how You’re going to do it, but I trust You.”

It didn’t magically erase her problems.

But it shifted something inside her.

Days turned into weeks.

Some were harder than others.

There were moments when Maya felt strong—when she could smile, laugh, and genuinely believe things would work out.

And then there were nights.

Nights when she sat on her bed, staring at her phone, calculating numbers again and again, hoping they would somehow change.

One night, after a particularly long day, she broke down.

Tears streamed down her face as she sank to the floor.

“I don’t understand, God,” she cried. “I’m working so hard. I’m doing everything I can. Why is it still so difficult?”

The room felt silent.

But deep in her heart, a quiet thought began to rise:

You are not alone.

Maya wiped her tears slowly.

She had felt this before—not an audible voice, but a gentle reassurance.

A reminder.

God hadn’t left her.

Not in the stress.

Not in the uncertainty.

Not in the waiting.

The next day, something unexpected happened.

Her boss called her into the office.

“Maya, I’ve been meaning to talk to you,” he said. “We’ve noticed how dedicated you’ve been. You’ve really gone above and beyond.”

Her heart started to race.

“We’d like to offer you a small raise,” he continued. “And possibly more opportunities for growth soon.”

Maya blinked, trying to process his words.

A raise.

It wasn’t a huge amount—but it was something.

Something she hadn’t seen coming.

Something she had prayed for.

“Thank you,” she said, her voice soft but filled with emotion.

That evening, Maya sat at her kitchen table again.

The same table. The same bills.

But something was different.

She wasn’t looking at them with fear anymore.

She was looking at them with faith.

Not because everything had suddenly been solved—but because she had seen God move.

Even in a small way.

Even in the middle of the struggle.

Maya picked up her pen and wrote one word at the top of her notebook:

Trust.

Because that’s what this journey was teaching her.

Not just how to survive.

But how to stand firm.

How to stay rooted.

She realized something important:

Faith isn’t proven when everything is easy.

It grows in the hard moments.

In the waiting.

In the unknown.

Like roots pushing deeper into the soil during a storm, her faith had been growing beneath the surface all along.

That night, Maya prayed differently.

Not with desperation—but with quiet confidence.

“Lord, thank You,” she said. “Thank You for providing, even when I can’t see the full picture. Help me to stay rooted in You, even through the darkest days. Remind me that You are faithful—always.”

She smiled softly, closing her eyes.

For the first time in a long time, she felt peace.

Not because life was perfect.

But because she knew she wasn’t walking through it alone.

And maybe that’s where true strength is found.

Not in having all the answers.

Not in having everything figured out.

But in holding on to faith—

even when life feels uncertain.

Because when you stay rooted in God,

you can stand strong through anything.
